Teacher Training

Teacher training is the key to success with Building Math Power programs.

Quality of instruction is the primary determiner of improved student performance. Because Building Math Power programs change the way that mathematics is taught, teacher training is essential. It is through learning how to teach Building Math Power well that teachers learn how to improve the mathematics achievement of their students. Our workshops help teachers understand the program’s vision, structure, and design; learn effective program-related instructional techniques; and become proficient in the mathematics content of the program. In addition, we provide the continuous support needed to ensure sustainability.

Building Math Power workshops are prepared and taught by Peggy Akin, Building Math Power’s lead author. Well-versed in all philosophical, curricular, and instructional aspects of the programs, she has 30 years of middle and high school teaching experience and has conducted successful professional development workshops for Building Math Power teachers.
